Comprehensive process analysis with the help of RBE Plus technology
A lot of enquiries are currently being submitted by customers on specific SAP projects and the requirements they entail. Demand for qualified SAP consultants continues to be very high.
In most of these enquiries, requirements and objectives are clearly defined and, ideally, the as-is state of the SAP customer system is also known. This makes it relatively easy to define task packages, assess the outlay involved and draw up a purposeful and transparent project plan which helps both the consultancy and the customer and ensures efficient project implementation.
The methodology plays a subordinate role in tasks of a more minor nature. Where larger projects with complex tasks are involved, however, a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the as-is situation is often necessary towards being able to draw up an offer with well-founded task packages and deadlines.
We recently received a complex enquiry of this nature from a medium-sized customer in the sphere of series production; the company wished on the one hand to update its SAP systems and, on the other, combine the two separate SAP systems (each of them a 3-system landscape) into a single, common system in order to only have to pay hosting costs for one system.
Further objectives of the project
-Development of a transparent course of action towards effectively integrating further sites (also with corporate acquisitions in mind) into the existing SAP system.
– Development of a system for the care and maintenance of the systems and processes
-Assessment of consequences of past approaches in the form of diverse Z-functionalities and functional enhancements, implementation of appropriate cleanup activities
– Changeover to Unicode
Given the initial situation, the requirements, as well as the customer’s objectives, it quickly became clear how a solution ought to look in terms of approach and methodology.
An RBE Plus analysis of the two SAP systems made absolute sense towards getting detailed results quickly and thus verifying the methodology.
The following results among others, were important:
– the in this case approx. 5000 Z-reports in the two systems, including the use thereof
-Process overviews of the two companies, incl. usage
– Master data and document information from both companies, incl. quantity structures
-Detailed information about Customizing with quantity structures
– Security-relevant aspects
-Licensed users and general details of the RBE Plus analysis
This information now made it possible to verify the planned approach in the project and thus served the SAP consultants as basis for their work on the project. The traditional approaches are thus obsolete and the work involved in the project can be performed faster and more effectively.
Detailed information as well as the entire process model of the companies are integrated into SAP Solution Manager 7.2 and thus form the core of the project work. From the adjustment of the settings in Customizing right to the testing of the business processes in local testing. No matter whether it is focused on the areas, on a company-wide integration test for the local introduction or to integrate further companies in the future.
The results of the RBE Plus analysis enabled the creation of a detailed information basis, and this is of very great importance for the lifecycle of an SAP system. This means that the planned projects can be processed effectively and a continuous improvement process designed and implemented.
